Versa Launches Sovereign SASE-as-a-Service for Global Enterprises

Sovereign SASE

Versa announced general availability of Sovereign SASE-as-a-Service, a fully cloud-delivered SaaS solution operating within regional legal jurisdictions. The platform ensures data, control, and management planes remain entirely inside sovereign infrastructure boundaries. Digital sovereignty has shifted from a compliance requirement to a board-level strategic priority. Governments across Europe now enforce stricter data residency and protection mandates. Frameworks including GDPR, NIS2, and DORA demand tighter regulatory enforcement standards. Consequently, simple data residency no longer guarantees regulatory compliance.

Closing the Sovereignty Gap

Most SASE vendors fail to deliver complete operational sovereignty. Many providers operate local POPs but forward traffic abroad for inspection. Others inspect traffic locally yet manage operations outside processing jurisdictions.  This structure creates significant sovereignty and compliance gaps. Traffic may route outside national borders for threat inspection. User metadata may also log beyond sovereign boundaries. True sovereignty requires more than localized gateways or on-premises appliances.

Versa pioneered sovereign SASE deployments with global service providers. Swisscom recently launched its beem service using Versa’s sovereign architecture. This deployment marked the first carrier-grade sovereign SASE implementation at a national scale.

“Many enterprises invested in sovereign cloud strategies, only to discover that secure access to their applications and data was still governed outside their jurisdiction,” said Kelly Ahuja, chief executive officer of Versa.“Deploying a cloud SASE provider’s appliance on customer premises does not make a solution sovereign. True sovereignty requires clarity on where access is secured, where policy is enforced, and who governs data while it is in motion.”

Enterprise-Grade Sovereignty for All

Previously, only large organizations could build sovereign SASE infrastructure. Now enterprises can adopt fully managed jurisdiction-compliant networking and security services. Versa delivers full-stack sovereignty across EU-hosted data, control, management, and logging planes. The service operates independently from Versa’s global cloud environment. Customers contract through Versa Networks B.V. under EU-governed operations. The SaaS model eliminates infrastructure management burdens for enterprises. Sovereign cloud alone does not secure data in motion. Versa Sovereign SASE enforces Zero Trust policies within sovereign boundaries.

“Delivering sovereign SASE as a managed service represents a structural shift in the market. Until now, sovereign architectures were largely limited to national operators or organizations with the resources to build and operate their own infrastructure. A managed model lowers the barrier for regulated enterprises that require jurisdictional alignment without taking on that operational burden.”

“Many of our enterprise customers are looking for the SASE capabilities they trust, but delivered in a way that meets strict EU sovereignty and GDPR requirements. Versa’s Sovereign SASE-as-a-Service approach allows us to address those needs without changing the underlying platform or operating model, which is exactly what the market is asking for.”
